Chapter One, I am Born

This was my first formal photo session, before I went to live with Mama, so I was less than 8 weeks old.

I was born in Raleigh, North Carolina at Cuddliest Cotons. Two nice doctors and their adult daughter helped my doggy Mother give birth to me and my litter mates. We were all given Italian names and mine was Nocciola. There were six of us. My mother is Lady Lily of Alika Cotons. Alika Cotons is a major big deal in the world of Coton de Tuléars, because it is run by Dr. Robert Jay Russell and Laurie Spalding. He is a famous scientist who went to Madagascar in the 1970's to study Lemurs and found the Coton de Tuléar and fell in love with the breed and brought it back to the USA. No one had done that before. Mama says they have worked hard to educate people about the proper way to preserve the breed and to ensure the line stays healthy and strong. So it kind of makes me like royalty, on top of being the Royal Dog of Madagascar. But I have great humility about this.

My father is Apollo of Tar Heel Cotons. I have not been to Tar Heel Cotons, nor do I know anything about them, but I am sure they are very nice. My father was very handsome back then. I haven't seen either of them since I went to live with Mama. That was a very long time ago back in 2009.

My litter mates and I were the first and only litter to come out of Cuddliest Cotons. I think it's because they loved us so much and hated to give us to our forever families. I know the day Mama picked me up, they were quite choked up.

I am the cute one in the middle, doing that sideways glance thing, sort of like that lead singer from The Bangles

Mama and I clicked right away. She was pretty choked up too, when she came to get me. I knew right away she was going to love me and take care of me and I was going to love her and take care of her. We were in sync about that. She named me Josephina of Cuddliest Cotons, but everyone has always called me Fifine. That's weird, I know, but it's sort of like Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Kate. Yes, it's exactly like that.

Anyway, next time I'll start to tell you about the adventures of Mama and me!

See you then!

Our Blog Begins...

My name is Fifine and I am in charge. Mama got me first and I am the boss. Everything was fine with just the two of us, but Mama decided I needed a companion when she had to go to work without me (even though she always tried to take me with her) so she got Daphne Guinness.

Daphne was subjected to Elvis lip when she would try to get too close for quite a while when she first came to live with us.

Daphne was subjected to Elvis lip when she would try to get too close for quite a while when she first came to live with us.

Daphne knew immediately that she would have to work to win me over, and I have to admit she worked very hard and diligently towards that goal. I kept asking Mama when she was going back to her house, but she never did. All in all, she has become a good little sister, although I do have to tell her what to do most of the time. Many years later, after several moves and a few cats subtracted and added into the mix (more on that in a future blog posting), Mama decided it was time to stop working in all those far away places and start having puppies. That's when Ebenezer came along. Life is very different having a boy in the house. I mean, there are and have been boy cats living with us, but a canine boy who is FULL boy? Oy!

As you can see, I suffered from a little bit of depression when Ebenezer first arrived in our world.

As you can see, I suffered from a little bit of depression when Ebenezer first arrived in our world.

Whereas Daphne was very compliant from the the beginning, Ebenezer is oblivious to all forms of correction or scolding. He lives in his own world and he is happy to be there. Very annoying. When we go for a walk with Mama, he is all over the place and I can see it is quite challenging for Mama. She is always correcting him and I am always there to back her up!

Now, there are rumblings that Ebenezer is going to get a girlfriend/bride/bitch, and if I understand life correctly, that should mean they will go live in their own house, right? Mama is spending a lot of time out at Robbins' Nest Cotons, where they have 3 dogs who just had a litter each (!) and they have 21 puppies. Mama comes home smelling just awful and full of confusing odors after she goes out there. She laughs and says "oh, I have lipstick on my collar!" but I'll tell you, it's not very funny. She also says she is learning how to be a breeder, but I think she is perfectly fine the way she is and doesn't need to learn anything else and should just stay at home with me. If she brings another puppy here to live with us, I just don't know what I will do.

Anyway, I look forward to telling you some of my stories and about the adventures I go on with Mama. We have done quite a bit of fun traveling together.

See you soon!
